As part of the introduction of a new dispatch system, the existing printing software for RFID cards is to be made available as a service. In addition, a new printer model is to be supported.
From the existing desktop application with WPF user interface, which is realised with C#, the part of the application responsible for addressing the printer is outsourced to a Windows service. This shows the advantage of the modular, decoupled design of the application. The design principles used also facilitate the simple integration of a new printer into the existing application. The interface for using the service is realised as a TCP-based telegram interface.
The extension allows the IT department to connect both the old and the new printers to the new dispatch system. The simple switchover between the card printers allows the department to continue using the existing printers until all consumables are used up.
