Analysis of the purchasing process for use of the SAP MM ERP module

Brief description
Based on an audit report by the auditing department, it is to be analyzed and evaluated for the purchasing department of a large company in the transport and logistics sector to what extent the use of additional SAP standard functions can facilitate and optimize the processing, management and control of procurement processes, compared to the procedure currently in use. The first step is then to analyze the current use of the SAP MM module. Next potential solutions are devised and recommended, in order to finally coordinate with the units in the central purchasing organization that are involved in the procurement process.

Within the framework of analyzing the current situation, in the first phase, structured interviews are held with the various units in the organization, based on checklists and interview guidelines, and the customizing settings in the IMG (Implementation Management Guide) of the SAP test system are analyzed. Next the results of the analysis are structured using function and process models. The individual processes are modeled in compliance with the BPMN 2.0 standard. Following conclusion of the current situation analysis, the results are presented to the central purchasing and IT departments for coordination. In the next, second phase, solution recommendations are devised based on the results of the analysis and are coordinated with the various units in the organization as well as the central purchasing department, and finally are summarized in the form of a report.
Subject description
The auditing department performs risk-oriented checks, which through analysis are intended to initiate improvement of processes in purchasing and materials management. Aside from optimizing procurement processes, the primary focus is on increasing the cost-effectiveness of purchasing, improving options to monitor framework agreements and annual orders, as well as the transparency of procurement processes.
