AI-powered modernization of a host-based contract management application

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Brief description

A host-based policy management system is used to manage insurance policies of various types. Among other things, the annual financial statements are prepared based on the entire policy portfolio. As part of the project, this system is being modernized and migrated to a Java Spring Boot-based architecture.

Supplement

To modernize the application, the existing PL/I code of the host system will be migrated to a microservice-based target architecture. In parallel, the database will be migrated from a DB2-based host system to a cloud-hosted PostgreSQL database. For both areas of transformation, an AI-enhanced workflow supported by Claude Code will be used. This includes code analysis, the creation of business and technical specifications, as well as code generation and verification. This is explicitly not a fully automated approach. Manual verifications and targeted interventions are performed in selected process steps to ensure quality assurance and the technical correctness of the results.

Subject description

Insurance contracts are characterized by a wide variety of individual terms tailored to different customer groups, as well as by changes over time. This complexity must be consistently accounted for throughout the entire term of the contract. When preparing the annual financial statements, all contract configurations must be taken into account completely and accurately. Given the large number of contracts within an insurance company, calculations must be performed with the utmost precision so that even the smallest deviations do not accumulate and lead to incorrect results.
