Building a BI Infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Project duration: 1 year, 9 months

Brief description

As part of this project, PTA is transforming the existing BI landscape by establishing a modern GCP infrastructure. Using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), compute, database, and storage resources, as well as complex network structures and encryption standards, are efficiently deployed. This ensures that the new environment fully complies with the client´s compliance and security requirements.

Supplement

Since the customer provides only an initial GCP configuration at the start of the project, PTA handles the entire requirements analysis and technical preparation. PTA designs and implements modular Terraform components for the entire service portfolio. This includes highly available network structures with Private Service Connect for Snowflake integration, the connection of external environments such as the Teradata Cloud, and granular permission management via service accounts. To ensure end-to-end encryption, the Cloud Key Management Service (KMS) is also integrated. The entire CI/CD pipeline is managed via Bitbucket as the central source for the build pipelines. Based on this architecture, PTA develops and orchestrates the final IaC scripts and implements the production rollout of the new BI landscape.

Subject description

Through consistent automation, PTA creates a highly scalable and low-maintenance infrastructure for its customers. The use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) ensures complete standardization of application operations, thereby sustainably minimizing administrative overhead and operating costs. At the same time, this approach ensures maximum transparency and audit compliance. A key focus is on optimizing the disaster recovery strategy. Thanks to automated deployment, the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) can be significantly reduced. This guarantees extremely fast recovery of the BI landscape with minimal data loss in the event of an emergency.
