Design and Implementation of Agentic Workflows for Requirements and Quality Engineering

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Brief description

With the introduction of a global insurance platform, a business unit is shifting its software development to a central service provider. Instead of developing the software in-house, it formulates requirements, tests the delivered features, and performs functional acceptance testing. The project designs this new end-to-end process – including test management – and equips it with AI agents and specialized skills. The process ranges from structured requirements gathering using sentence templates, through specifications, clickable mockups, and test plans, to largely automated acceptance testing based on defined quality gates. Traceability and risk-based test design ensure that every requirement is covered by a test and that critical cases are tested first. This creates a fully traceable workflow that enables the business unit to ensure the quality of software it no longer develops itself. In the process, the team and the process continue to evolve step by step.

Supplement

The service provider develops solutions in a specification-driven manner using its own AI agents. Requirements must therefore be equally readable by both humans and machines. The agents are implemented as 'skills' for Claude Code and packaged for subject matter experts in Claude Cowork. They verify acceptance criteria based on fixed rules, generate clickable HTML prototypes from user stories, and derive test cases with step-by-step lists and test data from them. A runner executes these step lists against the prototype and pre-production version to verify the quality of the acceptance criteria even before actual implementation. The PTA provides the external test manager. He designs the target process and test concept, evaluates the existing test base, and derives acceptance criteria and test cases. He plans and manages the acceptance tests, reviews error messages before assignment, coordinates with the service provider, and supports the team in adopting the new way of working.

Subject description

A department that no longer develops its own software remains responsible for its quality. It must formulate requirements so that the service provider builds the correct solution, and test it so that it can accept the delivery. Each requirement is expressed as a standardized sentence consisting of a condition, commitment, actor, and result (sentence template). Each acceptance criterion is an input-output pair verified using concrete data and linked to its sentence (traceability). This results in test cases with expected outcomes for each step; for high business risk, negative and boundary cases are tested first (risk-based test design). Reference cases with target values from business experts form the regression core for later changes. Quality gates define when a requirement is implementable and a delivery ready for acceptance. Benefits: fewer misinterpretations, traceable acceptance, and a business unit that controls its products without writing the code itself.
