Expansion of the billing service for a company-wide IT platform
Brief description
The existing tariffing service was enhanced by adding a new interface to support an additional client. A dedicated business logic was implemented to integrate and process data from various third-party services. The solution was built with Java and Spring Boot and deployed to a cloud-based infrastructure.
Supplement
The new interface of the tariffing service was designed to handle requests with dynamic or previously unknown attributes. This was achieved through an external configuration that manages attribute mapping, allowing the business department to make changes quickly without requiring a redeployment or complex IT processes. The service supports a wide range of insurance products. Technically, the solution is based on a Spring Boot application built following the principles of Hexagonal Architecture. To ensure the application quality, various testing methods were applied, including unit tests with Mockito, mutation tests with PiTest, and behavior-driven tests using the Karate framework. The application is deployed via Jenkins into a Kubernetes cluster hosted in the client's cloud environment.
Subject description
The tariffing service processes price requests for a wide range of insurance products. It leverages third-party services to enrich the data such as agency, personal, and address details, before passing the request to the calculation engine.
