Generative AI Development in the Health Insurance Sector: Consultation Process

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Brief description

The Discussion Procedure project focuses on developing an application that supports the processing and analysis of medical documents within the context of healthcare discussion procedures. The goal is to automatically identify relevant information, classify document types, and improve the efficiency of manual processing. PTA develops and maintains the application, implements new requirements, and performs testing activities. In addition, PTA supports the optimization of automated document processing and classification. Technically, the project is based on Python and modern web technologies, combining rule-based approaches with AI-supported methods.

Supplement

The system environment consists of Python-based backend components, REST APIs, a web-based user interface, version control with Git, and automated CI/CD processes. PTA is involved in the implementation and further development of features, bug analysis and resolution, testing activities, and the optimization of document processing and classification methods. The project utilizes both rule-based approaches (e.g., regular expressions) and AI-supported methods for processing medical documents.

he Discussion Procedure supports the structured processing and evaluation of medical documents within the context of review and discussion procedures in the statutory health insurance system. Its goal is to identify relevant information more quickly, classify documents more efficiently, and facilitate professional case handling. This helps standardize workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve the quality and traceability of decisions. Discussion procedures are used for the professional review and clarification of medical matters between healthcare providers and health insurance organizations. The system supports employees in reviewing, structuring, and evaluating the related documentation.
