Introduction of the Smart Meter Gateway

Brief description

The rollout of the smart meter gateway (SMGW) was stipulated in the MsbG and must be completed by 2032 at the latest. The introduction entails new market processes that must be implemented in the IT systems of all participants in the German energy market. The customer assumes the role of metering point operator and is responsible for the installation, removal, commissioning, and maintenance of the SMGW, as well as for the collection and transmission of metering data. PTA supports the customer in designing and integrating the SMGW processes into its IT systems.

Supplement

The central master data system is a custom-developed .NET application connected to SQL databases and featuring a BizTalk interface to the SAP systems. The processes for implementing the SMGW processes are carried out by extending the application´s functionalities. The design is based on an analysis of current market processes, EDIFACT message formats, decision tree diagrams, validation identifiers, and EDI@Energy web services. The GWA is connected via custom interfaces using specially developed middleware.

Subject description

The initial implementation of the SMGW processes in the IT landscape is being carried out for SLP facilities and takes into account the general requirements of the market. In addition to master data and transaction data processes, this also includes the billing of additional MSB costs to the grid operator (grid operator financing).
