Maintenance and support Niederspannungscockpit (NSC)

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Project duration: 10 months

Brief description

The Low-Voltage Cockpit (NSC) ensures comprehensive manual and automatic monitoring and control of low-voltage grids in accordance with the requirements of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). The focus is on the early detection of limit violations and their prevention through grid-optimized control of consumption and generation facilities. Development takes place in two phases: In Phase I, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is delivered; in Phase II, the MVP is expanded into a fully functional, production-ready solution. During the maintenance and support phase, a release is first prepared by resolving all outstanding and newly discovered bugs. This is followed by an analysis of problems and bugs encountered by customers; these are resolved as necessary. In addition, minor but essential features are integrated.

Supplement

The NSC runs on a containerized platform (Kubernetes) and uses a microservices architecture with Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Angular. It is designed to operate in two modes: a non-KRITIS instance and a KRITIS instance with enhanced security requirements for critical control activities. PTA GmbH is responsible for the design and implementation of the graphical user interface, the integration of the database modules, and the real-time display of network and status information as well as measurement values. This includes functions for visualizing network objects, status and event data, mandatory disclosures, and documentation. Automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and static code analysis are employed for quality assurance.

Subject description

With increasing electrification-particularly through heat pumps, charging infrastructure, and photovoltaics-the load on the low-voltage grid is rising. The NSC supports distribution system operators in transparently monitoring the grid, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing grid-supporting control measures in accordance with the legal requirements of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). By collecting and analyzing measurement and grid data, the NSC enables a data-driven assessment of expansion needs and the short-term, grid-oriented control of consumption and generation facilities. This reduces grid expansion costs and facilitates the integration of decentralized facilities. In Release 2, the system will be expanded to include the control of generation facilities. This will enable the NSC to regulate both controllable consumption devices (SteuVE) and generation facilities (EZA) as needed, thereby contributing significantly to the secure, economical, and regulatory-compliant transformation of the energy grids.
