Pilot migration from Access to SQL Server

The two free Microsoft tools “MS Access Upsizing Assistant” and “SSMA” (SQL Server Migration Assistant) are compared in terms of scope of function, operation and migration result. The Access application used is the free Nordwind standard Access application from Microsoft. The source system is Access 2010, the destination system is MS SQL Server 2012. Only the tables and data are migrated. The specialist functions (input screens, reports, etc.) remain fully in Access. The Access application must be linked via ODBC with the tables of the SQL Server DB. As part of the pilot migration, even the errors caused by the data type conversion, for example, are analyzed in the Access application.
