Planning and calculation of technical power-plant KPIs

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Project duration: 10 months

Brief description

Cloud-based individual software for planning, forecasting and calculating technical key performance indicators (KPIs) for the power plant fleet of an energy company; it provides a consistent, traceable data basis for operational management, business planning and reporting and reduces manual effort. We developed the application from scratch: management of several forecasting points per year, integration of availability forecasts from a source system, and automated calculation of the relevant technical key figures, including plausibility and completeness checks and prepared analysis views.

Supplement

The application is part of a microservice architecture in Microsoft Azure (Azure App Service, Azure Key Vault, MS SQL); CI/CD via Azure DevOps. The backend is based on .NET 8 (C#) with CQRS handlers, and the frontend on Preact and TypeScript. Authorization is managed through a central access management service. We developed the KPI calculation logic, integration of external systems, validations (required KPIs, values per relevant year), as well as export views.

Subject description

Technical KPIs form the foundation for operations management, profitability analysis, and reporting in power plant operations. Consistent, forecast-capable, and traceable KPI planning across multiple forecast points in time is highly valuable for operators, as it supports operational control and financial planning. By integrating availability forecasts and automating KPI calculations, manual effort is reduced and data quality is improved.
