Proof of concept for the development of an internal data warehouse with a BI frontend
Brief description
The project aims to establish an internal data warehouse that specifically consolidates and processes data from Salesforce and LGX, thereby serving as a central source of information for business management. The first iteration is a proof of concept with a narrowly defined objective: to demonstrate that the connection to Salesforce is established securely and that data arrives in the data warehouse unchanged. To establish a connection to Salesforce, Apache Airbyte provides a well-established connector, the suitability of which will be validated as part of the PoC. Business accuracy, key metrics, and reports are expressly not the focus of this phase. Following successful implementation, the business-specific implementation of the remaining components will follow.

As part of the PoC, an open-source stack is used that runs in containers on a single VM, allowing it to be easily deployed to a larger environment later on. The Apache Airbyte Salesforce connector is used to load data from Salesforce. Current versions of Airbyte run exclusively on a Kubernetes cluster. To conserve resources, Kubernetes k3s was used for the PoC, and the connection to Salesforce was tested using the free Developer Edition.
Subject description
The various source systems provide different types of business-relevant data. Salesforce provides customer, project, time-tracking, and employee data, while LGX provides HR and rate data. For effective business management, both data sets must be consolidated in the data warehouse. Time tracking, in particular, is an essential source, because without recorded hours, there can be no revenue, no capacity utilization, and no costs. As a result, nearly every analysis depends on the Salesforce integration, which is why the PoC is evaluating the functionality of Apache Airbyte´s Salesforce connector.
