Providing a manual upload feature

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Project duration: 4 months

Brief description

The PTA is expanding the existing application to include a manual Excel upload process. A structured import workflow developed by the PTA validates, filters, and transfers monthly data to Snowflake. Existing data records are checked and, if necessary, overwritten in a controlled manner.

Supplement

As part of the project, the application´s existing data functionality will be expanded to include a manual upload process for Excel files. The first step is to analyze the existing process. Technical requirements will be defined in collaboration with the business team, and potential edge cases will be identified. Based on this, various proposed solutions and workflows will be developed and coordinated with the business unit. The implemented process will enable users to independently import monthly data for power plants in Sweden into the application via an Excel file. The system will determine the available months from the file, check existing data to prevent potential overwrites, and display the relevant values to users for confirmation. After approval, the complete dataset for the selected month is imported into the Snowflake schema in accordance with the defined business rules. Additionally, the Excel files are parsed and validated on the server side.

Subject description

C#, .NET, REST APIs, and Snowflake are used. The business and technical focus is on extending an existing application to include an Excel-based data import, developing multi-level REST endpoints, and validating, processing, and persisting data. Other key areas include requirements analysis and coordination with the business, the design of import workflows, the consideration of business rules and dependencies during data population, and the development of controlled override logic for existing monthly data. In addition, Excel files are parsed and validated on the server side. Edge cases and invalid entries are intercepted before the actual data processing takes place.
