RPA-based automation of end-of-day closing processes in the insurance industry

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Our IT reference projects serve as a basis for orientation. They support the reusability of tried and tested concepts as part of project implementation.

Brief description

As part of the project, the automation of end-of-day closing processes at an insurance company is implemented. The objective is to reduce manual activities, increase process reliability, and ensure the timely and reproducible execution of business-critical transactions.

Supplement

The automation is implemented within a Windows-based custom application environment. An open-source RPA framework based on Robot Framework is used, supplemented by custom logging and error-handling mechanisms. The solution takes into account isolated development and production environments, as well as orchestrated, time-controlled execution of individual transactions. PTA is responsible for the functional process analysis based on the existing corporate documentation, the technical architecture design, and the implementation of modular automation components. This includes the development of reusable UI interaction components, the mapping of complex transaction logic, and integration into a controllable operational environment.

Subject description

The functional objective of the developed RPA automation is the compliant, sequential processing of business-critical transactions within a Windows-based custom application. The implementation is based on the RPA Framework, using specialized libraries such as RPA.Windows for UI interaction, RPA.Outlook for rule-based, automated notification of process owners, and RPA.Filesystem for file and directory processing. The automation is structured into functionally separated business keywords, technical UI keywords, and technically executable tasks. This enabled the establishment of a modular, maintainable, and extensible architecture. The business benefit lies in the standardization of recurring closing processes, the minimization of manual interaction, and the assurance of traceable process executions.
