A collaboration between PTA and Statista
This blog series provides the latest figures, trends and forecasts on the use of AI technologies in companies. With fact-based findings, we provide well-founded insights to make the latest advances in AI understandable and tangible. The series is produced in cooperation with Statista.
AI has long been a reality – it is shaping our everyday working lives. Companies are using AI to work more efficiently, drive innovation and overcome complex challenges. The market is growing rapidly: between 2023 and 2030, the market volume is expected to increase from 18.94 billion to 325.40 billion euros – an almost seventeen-fold increase.¹ But how far have developments around AI already progressed? How can companies find out whether they are already exploiting all the possibilities? And what are the current developments around Agentic AI all about? The following sections answer these and other questions and provide companies from all sectors with an answer to the question “Why should I get to grips with the topic of artificial intelligence?
AI: Many companies are already convinced of the benefits
Anyone who takes a closer look at current surveys and statistics will quickly realize that the use of AI is increasing, but it has yet to be implemented across the board. Large companies in particular are driving development forward, while many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still hesitant. Yet AI is already being used successfully for text analysis, speech recognition and natural language generation.
Regardless of the industry and company size, those who use AI can benefit in various areas. The following arguments are usually particularly convincing:
- AI helps to save time and costs with the help of automation. And this is precisely what ultimately increases effectiveness.
- Modern AI technologies are able to analyze large amounts of data quickly and accurately. This helps companies to make well-founded decisions under time pressure, even in relation to topics such as big data and the like.
- AI also plays an important role when it comes to addressing customers individually. Based on the respective tools, the marketing department and sales can adapt their offers even better to the expectations of the target group.
- AI-supported solutions help to develop new business models, products and services.
- AI is also becoming increasingly relevant in the area of risk detection and mitigation. Among other things, it can be used in relation to quality control.
Important: These advantages are only a snapshot in time. Among other things, the current developments surrounding Agentic AI prove that the world of AI is in a state of continuous change.
More than just a trend: Agentic AI vs. generative AI in comparison
Generative AI not only optimizes processes – it changes the way companies make decisions, collaborate and grow. But to realize its full potential, the next step is needed: Agentic AI. This technology goes beyond pure content creation. It creates autonomous, goal-oriented systems that act and make decisions autonomously. The most important differences between Generative AI and Agentic AI at a glance:
Generative AI:
- These are AI systems that generate content such as text, images or videos.
- The programs work on demand and produce results based on the information that the tools have learned over time.
- Generative AI does not carry out any independent actions, but only works “on demand”.
Agentic AI:
- These AI solutions are capable of pursuing goals independently. They make decisions and act actively.
- A typical example: AI bots that perform automated tasks on the internet.
- The technologies are able to analyze, develop intermediate steps and check results.
- The special thing about Agentic AI is that it works proactively and within given goals without the need for human intervention.
Agentic AI: trends and forecasts
As early as 2025, 25% of companies using Generative AI will launch their first pilot projects or proof-of-concepts. By 2027, this figure is set to rise to 50%.² The long-term significance is clear: 32% of companies worldwide see Agentic AI as an essential part of their business strategy by 2025. Executives recognize the strategic value – 67% plan to integrate it into their AI transformation.³ Companies that act early will secure a decisive advantage in an increasingly autonomous economy – partly because technology will continue to develop rapidly in the future.
As a result, those who use Agentic AI in companies will be able to benefit from the following advantages in the coming years:
- More autonomy and more effective work, because the corresponding Agentic AI tools will be able to pursue long-term goals independently and make even more informed decisions without human intervention.
- Optimized context processing, as the functions relating to the areas of “memory” and “situational learning” will also improve. The programs learn on the basis of previous tasks and continuously adapt their action process,
- Simplified integration into business processes, as Agentic AI is likely to be even more adaptable to individual company software, cloud services and workflows.
- Possible cooperation between different agents, so that one area can take care of research and the other area can take care of planning, for example.
- Increased safety aspects, in the context of which the topic of “ethics” will play an even greater role.
Agentic AI in use
AI, especially Agentic AI, is not a “science fiction” topic, but has already become a reality in many companies. Managers who decide to invest in AI now are supporting their efficiency, their innovative strength and thus their long-term competitiveness.
Agentic AI has already opened up new opportunities for many companies in the areas of “automation” and “decision-making”. For everyone else, the following applies: those who are “only” starting now can still benefit – both on a technological and strategic level.
