Car Rental Platform

This IT project is part of our digitalization and optimization of our customers’ IT landscape. Through targeted measures, we promote technological progress, optimize cross-system processes and create a sustainable basis for future developments. Brief description

A peer-to-peer rental platform for sports cars was designed and implemented as a multi-platform ecosystem for a client. The solution comprises five integrated applications: a mobile app (iOS/Android), a web dashboard, an admin panel, a marketing website, and a central backend API. The implementation was carried out using React, React Native, and Node.js based on a MongoDB database; deployment is handled in a cloud environment.

Supplement

The platform was developed as a two-sided marketplace connecting vehicle owners and renters. A central backend API serves five frontend applications via JWT-secured REST interfaces, supplemented by a WebSocket layer (Socket.IO) for real-time chat and live notifications. MongoDB with geospatial indexes enables performant location-based vehicle search. Payment processing utilizes Stripe Connect as a marketplace solution with automatic splitting between platform fees and payouts. Entrust was integrated for identity verification, complemented by AWS S3 for file storage and Firebase for push notifications. The mobile app was built with React Native as a cross-platform solution. Multi-language support (DE, EN, FR, IT) was implemented throughout using i18next. Deployment is automated via CI/CD pipelines with Amplify and AWS Elastic Beanstalk; the mobile app is distributed through the app stores.

Subject description

The platform covers the complete rental process for sports cars: from location-based vehicle search through booking requests with availability checks to payment processing and mutual reviews. Vehicle owners list their cars with photos, descriptions, and availability calendars and receive booking requests for approval. Renters must complete identity verification with driver's license and ID checks before their first booking. Communication takes place via an integrated real-time chat. An automated booking lifecycle manages the workflow, with payments being reserved upon confirmation and only disbursed to the owner after completion. An admin panel enables platform management with user, booking, and financial overviews.
