Decommissioning obsolete software and data in an SAP ERP environment
Brief description
In preparation for an S4 conversion of an SAP ERP system that has been in use for more than 25 years, various developments in the customer namespace and third-party developments must be removed from the SAP ERP system. The software artifacts that are no longer needed are identified via CCLM in Solution Manager. This monitors the use of ABAP objects and places them on a blacklist. In addition, add-ons are replaced by other solutions or processes. If necessary, customizing settings must be reverted and table contents deleted.
Supplement
The dismantling of software that is no longer needed and the deletion of data requires various analyses and the development of implementation strategies. For ABAP objects, it is necessary to check their use and dependencies and find solutions to problems that arise during the actual dismantling process. Various technologies are used to delete data. These include the use of SAP Landscape Transformation Tools, archiving with the help of archiving objects, and the use of SAP standard reports. SQL statements in the SQL editor can be used to prepare and monitor the deletion and archiving of data.
Subject description
Changes to processes and the transfer of processes to other customer-owned systems or third-party tools mean that software implemented or installed in the SAP system is no longer required. The reasons for adapting or outsourcing processes from the SAP ERP system are very complex. These include, for example, the introduction of group-wide solutions or cross-company implementations. These allow processes to be harmonized and consolidated within the group. In addition to FI/CO topics, this also affects the HR area.
