Replacement of IT system for commercial evaluation of fuel elements

Brief description
To replace a legacy system, PTA GmbH developed various implementation scenarios in a preparatory project phase and prepared them for decision-making by the IT and specialist departments based on technical and economic aspects. As a result, the previously used intranet application (.NET 3.x with legacy UI components) will be discontinued and the existing WCF backend will be migrated to the long-term supported version .NET4.8. This system component, which was also previously used as the backend for report generation, will be expanded in specific areas and adapted to the current development specifications for individual software development. Furthermore, the existing database will be transferred from SQL Server 2016 to 2022. The reports used to date (SQL Server Reporting Services) will be prepared to enable convenient, read-only use by end users.

After the changeover, the streamlined overall system will run on a modern IT infrastructure based on Windows Server 2022, SQL Server 2022, and Reporting Services 2022. Special attention will be paid to data protection and data security.
Subject description
The pragmatic approach to providing historical information by dismantling the previous intranet application in favor of using existing reporting services offers an opportunity to significantly reduce the overall costs of the system. In addition to focusing on the functional scope that will be relevant in the future, it is possible to dismantle specially maintained, outdated IT infrastructure. This step also serves the general aspect of IT security.
