Migration of XAML build definitions to TFS 2017

Project duration: 1 year, 4 months

Brief description

The build process of four projects supported by the project team gets migrated from XAML build definitions to TFS build definitions.

Supplement

The affected projects are maintained since many years by a PTA project team in a TFS environment owned by the customer. For each project some number of build definitions exist for daily build, continuous integration builds, gated check-in builds, test builds, release builds, or various specialized builds. These build definitions were initially developed for use with TFS 2012 and are based on a XAML build platform provided to a large number of projects by an infrastructure project of the customer. TFS 2017 is the last version of TFS which supports these existing build definitions. The customer intends to update to TFS 2018 for the foreseeable future.

Subject description

In the project, several medical device software products are developed. From TFS 2018 on, the existing XAML build definitions are no longer supported by the TFS build system. It is not possible to migrate the existing build definitions to the new environment automatically because there exists no tool that supports the migration, and the new environment is based on a totally new technology as it is also used in Microsoft Azure. Therefore, each existing build definition needs to be migrated individually.
