Process automation to reduce support costs in logistics environment

Project duration: 8 months

Brief description

In an existing logistics environment, frequently recurring processes are automated, which currently are handled as support cases via a ticket system, as they were not yet relevant in the original process design. The automation creates considerable time relief for first-level support. In addition, it safeguards the processes on the system side, the implementation of which has previously required a high level of specialist and technical understanding.

Supplement

The application, which is the center of the logistics process, is a C #. NET client application with Infragistics 16.2 (partly also WPF) as frontend components and an Oracle 12 DB in the background, which has various interfaces to different systems (including web service, database links and Oracle Advanced queuing). The PTA project team supports the analysis of the existing processes (eg with regard to frequency of occurrence, risk), prioritizes them with the customer, creates a solution design, implements this in the existing logistics environment in C #, WPF and PL / SQL. In addition, it accompanies the roll-out process of the implemented functions, supports the customer-side integrative tests and provides support.

Subject description

In the logistics system that has been used for over a decade, various processes have been established in recent years that are no longer covered by the original design of the application with its associated components. These processes and functions were previously carried out manually by experienced customer application supervisors, independent of the application. This includes, for example, the subsequent creation of further delivery timelines or the inclusion of new transport routes, the postponement of delivery days at logistics hubs and the resetting of incorrectly run import processes in order to enable a new import. These previously manual activities, some of which are very error-prone and can lead to discrepancies with connected systems in their current practice, are on the one hand automated on the system side (they are now available to end users) and on the other hand revised so that undesired side effects no longer arise.
