Update of a mobile outdoor application for smartphones
Brief description
An outdoor smartphone application for iOS and Android is updated and a new version of the application is released. The project is migrated into a new development environment and external packages as well as used Frameworks are updated. Individual parts of the software, including the user interface layout have to be rewritten in order to cover the large diversity of mobile devices and used SDK's within those devices. An analysis is done to identify the missing functionality required to comply with the new EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and this functionality is implemented.
Supplement
The application, which has been developed with Xamarin Studio using Xamarin as cross platform technology is migrated to Visual Studio 2017 as integrated development environment. As a consequence of the migration, various adjustments are made, in particular the XAML layout files have to be modified. Additionally, a cost-benefit analysis, as well as a prove of principle analysis is carried out regarding the usage of Xamarin.Forms. The application is tested by using Android and iOS emulators, as well as user devices.
Subject description
The application is a mobile outdoor application for smartphones which can be used for example in the tourism industry to playfully introduce users to geographic areas. The application uses a geo-engine and localization tracking to lead users along a virtual predefined path. Depending on the position on the path, the application presents to the user predefined information in form of multi-media files, or asks the user trivia questions relating to his current environment.
