Outside of Germany, Westgard rules are usually applied for quantitative quality control. Westgard rules are based on an article by Westgard, J.O.; Barry, P.L.; Hunt, M.R: A Multi-Rule Shewart Chart for Quality Control in Clinical Chemistry (in Clinical Chemistry 27/3, 1981, pp. 493-501).
